No Room at the Inn

While I'm not typically an advocate of getting someone a kitten or puppy as a present (because they can run into problems as the animal gets into their "teenage" years), I am an advocate of everyone seeing if they have room for one more at their "Inn".

I know more and more people who have 2 or 3 cats and a dog.  It's a lot more doable than most people may think.  I never thought I'd be able to have 3 cats, a dog & a snake, but our house is a loving and fun home for us and our furry friends.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  Do you know anyone who might want to make room for one or one more?

Most people who have furry friends in their life know how incredible it is to share your home and life with them.  They can be your best friends when no one understands you and the best snugglers at night.  Take a look at who's available and see if you or someone you know has room.

Happy Holidays!

What's In There Anyway?

Sooo I'm a product junkie and I was recently enlightened by a loved one to just what's in all the products we use every day like shampoos, makeup, soaps, lotions and more.  Although it's not realistic for us to eliminate all of these products (at least right away), maybe we can try to minimize the amount & frequency of these chemicals we put on our bodies.  I wanted to share this with everyone not to scare anyone but just to hopefully give you the tools and information to decide for yourselves what products you want to use.

I've been investigating this issue and have found some great sites that can help break it down.  Care2.com has a great article listing the Top 15 Ingredients to Avoid and I've also used SkinDeep.com to research many of the products that I've used for years.  Many or most of the self care products we use contain some scary chemicals that have been linked to things like cancer, kidney failure, & hormonal disruption to name a few (this goes for guys too!).  I highly recommend checking these sites out to see for yourself.

In addition to this I've been researching what are safe and natural alternatives (that work!) for the product junkies like me!  I'll have more on this soon but so far I've been making my own homemade face masks, body scrubs & oils, and using myself, my sister and friends as guinea pigs...with great results!

Here are my favorites so far:

Face Mask:
Equal Parts Honey, Olive Oil or Jojoba Oil, & Sugar
Slab it on your face and leave for 15-30 min and rinse.  You're skin will be sooo soft!

Go to for Body & Face Lotion:
Jojoba Oil (Can add Vitamin E Oil & Lavendar Oil for extra benefit)
A little goes a long way.  Put it everywhere and you'll be so soft.
*Also if you like that dirty hair look but don't want dirty hair, you can put a little of it in your hair.  I've been recommending it to my guy friends as an alternative to not washing their hair!

I'll have more soon.  If you have stuff you love, please share!  Also I'm really interested in this company called 100% Pure that makes makeup, lotions, body washes, skin care, etc all from fruits & vegetables.  It looks fantastic!  If you've tried it will you let me know?

Nite!

Help Me Update My Hair

Most of you know Ryan Olde has been my hair stylist since before The Moxy even started.  He's updating my hair next week and as usual I want to do something different & not just get a trim :)  I had some fun on Instyle's Makeover site trying on hair and I wanted your opinion.  I couldn't add pink to the hair styles so just imagine pink being in there!  Also I probably can't go totally blonde but I didn't like how the color looked when I changed it on the program so again just use your imagination.  If you have cool hair ideas send pics!  Would love to see them.

Keep rockin and much love,

My Favorite Time of Year

Hey Everybody,
This is my favorite time of year.  Although it gets dark early we have the lights strung on houses, trees & street lamps to keep our spirits illuminated.  I love the smells, the sounds & the childlike excitement many of us feel as the festivities grow closer.

I’m especially excited because The Moxy’s playing some cool shows in December and planning more for the rest of the winter.  We’re playing at Angels & Kings in NYC on the 14th, which I’ve heard great things about and NYC in December can’t be beat.  It’s an acoustic show which is so different from when we’re playing an all out show but it’s one of my favorite things to do.  I grew up singing just me and my guitar so it’s familiar to me but so much more fun because the guys kill it on their instruments; something I didn’t know how to do growing up.

The next show is in West Chester, PA at The Note on December 17th.  This show is our baby this month for a couple reasons.  It’s an All Ages show, something we try to do as much as possible for our younger crowd.  We don’t want you trying to sneak into bars all the time :)  It’s our first time playing West Chester since the summer so we’re stoked to return for our Festivus show.  Btw, does anyone get the “Festivus” reference?  I’ve only heard from one person who knows.  We’re playing with some friends of ours too, Cheap Seats, who played with us in August at The Note, The Goodnight Anthem, & American Living.  They’re great guys and we’re stoked for you to see them live too. Get Tickets.

Lastly, we’re really excited about this show because we’re raising donations and awareness for our  SPCA in Chester County.  The SPCA in general needs our donations and attention so please check out the ones in your area and show them some love.  If you’re coming to our show on the 17th make sure to bring a donated item like towels, blankets, toys, or check their list of needed items or donate money and for either we’ll give you a signed picture for free.

If you're from out of town and want to donate, use this donation form and put "The Moxy" where it says "In Honor Of" and we'll send you a signed picture.

The Chester County SPCA does a great job and unfortunately they do the dirty work, but they save so so so many lives too.  Here’s just one story of why we love them so much.  Taylor and I found a severely emaciated cat in Everhart Park in September.  the poor thing was laying by a tree, people were around but no one seemed to notice or care about this thing.  We walked closer to see that it had flies swarming it’s back leg, like it was dead.  We scooped him up to try to get him some help but everything was closed.  Taylor left a message on the SPCA’s answering machine asking advice on what we should do.  There is a 24 hour emergency vet but we wouldn’t be able to pay the bill.

We took him back to our house and gave him water (which he couldn’t get enough of) when the phone rang.  A woman from the SPCA called, she was in the process of rescuing a cat as well.  She said for us to meet her at the emergency vet and she would pick up the tab.  Taylor asked “Isn’t this cat just going to be put down?” to which she replied that although it happens it’s the very last resort and they place so many animals in homes.  We already have 3 cats, a dog and a snake, not allowed to have more right now.

Fingers crossed we B-lined to the vet.  They took the kitty in and we were told to just call and check in later.  A few hours later they said he would be fine, nothing that wouldn’t heal. We figured this was someone’s cat as it was so friendly and a beautiful grey persian so Taylor made fliers to put up around the area to see if we could find the owner.  Just before we put them up we checked in with the woman at the SPCA.

To our amazement...they found the owners!  We couldn’t believe it.  Turns out he had been missing since July!  What an amazing miracle.  So this is the kind of work that the SPCA does and we thank them for it every chance we can.

Hope to see your lovely faces at a show soon.

Keep rockin and much love.
