Happy Valentine's Day from The Moxy

As usual I end up making some variation on a recipe when there's no need for it:)  I got this sugar cookie mix thinking it would be cute to make something for The Moxy fans and friends.  I was going to write on them and decorate them all fancy like...well I ended up using 2 eggs instead of one, then needed more flower but all I had was Trader Joe's Multigrain Pancake Mix!  It worked well but the cookies turned out like pancake cookie hybrids :)  They're definitely the healthiest sugar cookies I've ever seen!  They probably look tastier than they taste!

Anywhoo...hope to see some of you at our show at Arlene's Grocery in NYC on Sat, Feb 13th at 12AM.  We've really been loving playing in NYC so hope you can join in on the fun!

Keep rockin.

Bananas & Coconut Oil

My boyfriend jokes that I have a food fetish because I've been trying out every homemade food based remedies for dry winter skin.  I guess it is funny to see me putting yogurt or honey or whatever on my face to see how it works:)  After trying a ton of food I've found 2 items that have had the best results hands down.

Btw, this is information is not just for the ladies.  If you're brave guys you can try this too!

BANANAS

Massage a Tablespoon of Banana onto your face and leave it on until it dries completely (about 20 min).

I don't sleep that great all the time and you can tell in the morning.  Instead of loading on the makeup, I use this and look like I've had a great night's sleep.  I've never seen any product I've tried (and that's a lot of products) have this good of results.  My boyfriend even noticed the major difference.

Bananas are also know to help prevent and reduce appearance of wrinkles.  And you can use the rest in a shake or something:)

Cost: Around $0.50 per Banana

COCONUT OIL

Rub onto your face & body each night (and morning if you are very dry).
A little goes a very long way.  Yes you will look greasy for a little bit but it goes away in about 20-30 minutes as it soaks into your skin.  You can also use this in your hair before your shower as a deep conditioner or after (very, very little) for that bed head look.

Once the oil soaks in it'll leave your skin glowing and healthy.  It also decreases wrinkles caused by dry skin.

Cost: $8-20 at your local health food store

If you try this at home please tell me what you think!  I'm always trying new homemade recipes and will give you my reviews as they come.  I try to stay away from any products with inedible ingredients as much as possible, and especially stay away from sulfates & parabens.  It makes sense that if you can't eat it, why would it be good for your biggest organ...your skin?

I look forward to hearing your reviews too!  Enjoy the snow if you're in the east coast blizzard right now!

Wolves Find Sanctuary in PA

For my sister's birthday, we took her to the Wolf Sanctuary in Lititz, PA (near Lancaster).  Ali (my sister) and I are huuuge wildlife lovers and advocates.  We used to volunteer at the Schuylkill Wildlife Rehabilitation Center near Philadelphia, PA which cares for hurt hawks, owls, foxes, etc and raises abandoned baby squirrels, birds and opossums and more.  One of her dreams was to go see the wolves and the experience left us wanting to volunteer at the Wolf Sanctuary as well!

It was a perfect time to visit the wolves because we were just hit with a massive snow storm and the wolves were in heaven.  The sanctuary has rescued wolves from horrible domestic situations and has given them a safe and spacious environment and they seem to be very happy campers!  The people there are amazing and the wolves are incredible and awe inspiring to be around.  Amazing power & presence...highly recommend going there if you can.  Or donate to them!  They need it!

What's even better is that they have a gorgeous Bed & Breakfast on the site that you can stay at and visit the wolves.

It's so important that people know and realize that wolves are so much more than they are portrayed as in the media and films.  My sister and I sign petitions weekly to stop the needless and reckless hunting of wolves in the world.  Predators keep balance in the cycle of life and they are necessary in the wild.  Period.  If you want to sign petitions too please visit the links I've provided below.

Help Feed Shelter Animals for Free

I'm not sure how I first came across this site but it's awesome and I visit it every day.  The site is called Freekibble and every day they have a trivia question, one for cats and one for dogs.  Whether you answer wrong or right they donate 10 pieces of kibble on your behalf to animals living in shelters.  Now this may sound like a teeny tiny amount but so far they've been able to provide 2,250,250 nutritious meals to hungry dogs & cats!

In addition, you get to learn some fun & funny facts about our furry friends.  For instance, did you know that Cat Agility Competitions are now popular all around the world?  I didn't until this morning :)  They send me an email each morning and I answer the 2 questions as part of my morning email checking, coffee drinking time of the morning:)  Try to fit it into your day if you can!
